It has been said that the NBA signaled the start of America being influenced by the Coronavirus when it postponed the season, many assume the restart of the season will signal the end of the Coronavirus lockdown. There are two sides to whether or not the NBA has had a positive influence on the virus effects. For the NBA, the quick shut down was a good choice by preventing mass gatherings early on. This decision would potentially help flatten the curve as it sent a message early on that the virus was serious to many sports fans which then in turn tells people that they should stay home. They are currently considering a “non-fan regular season wrap up before playoffs” according to Adam Silver, NBA commissioner. It is still too early to say for sure though, the NBA will remain in a waiting mode until the end of April with the rest of the country.

However, many question whether or not the teams should have received as many COVID-19 tests as they did, without symptoms necessarily being shown by the players who received them. Kevin Durant did show symptoms along with teammates and thus needed to be tested and is now in recovery from the virus. Even with this, is it needed for 8 full NBA teams to receive tests over the general public and potentially symptomatic people who need them more so? Some say it was necessary as the teams were exposed initially to large crowds and traveling before the significance of Coronavirus had been recognized. The stronger position is that these teams should not have used their fame and money to receive tests over others without any real signs of symptoms. So, what are your thoughts? Who do you think should have received the limited tests?

Also, many are left to wonder what Kobe Bryant would have thought? What would have been his take as a father of four daughters… With the influence he held would he have been able to make a difference in the actions taken by the NBA? Comment below!
