What Do We Do Now?

Something huge is happening right now… Something I don’t think we can even fully grasp at the time being. I know I certainly am not. How can this be? Colleges shut down, March Madness canceled, NBA postponed, Euro 2020 canceled, MLS postponed, NFL draft without fans, NHL postponed, MLB postponed. The effects are endless, the closures are endless, and it all seems like there will be no end. Everyone is sitting and waiting nervously for what will come next. The unknown is what terrifies people the most and rightly so. We can see Italy 10 days ahead of us and China 2 months into our hopeful future. But will America be able to slow it down quickly enough? What else is going to be affected? Kevin Durant, Tom Hanks, Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell and so many others have tested positive for it.

Listen to those who are using their voices to speak out like Stephen Curry:

And even hear Roy Williams, after going to almost every March Madness in the recent past, on

Andrew Carter’s page:

Listen to them and others like them, this just got serious and we need to understand what our actions can do. America has the power to stop this virus or to send it into full on fury. As your mom always said, “you are stronger than you think you are, DON’T underestimate your power”. Where will this virus go and who could it take down. What seemed like the common flu at the beginning quickly turned into an international pandemic, and one in the modern world of technology and progression that should have warned us. But we did not listen, we kept moving at our fast pace, I even tried to remain with my normal routine, and COVID-19 spread like fire in a forest. There was no stopping the “invisible virus” from taking over. Not enough hospitals if we all get sick, numbers with compromised immune systems are much higher than we want to believe, and only a vaccine to slow it down. I went into this week thinking “oh it will be fine, I won’t go out AS much, I will try to soak up time at home and not focus on what I’m losing at college, and then be back in three weeks”. But it is quickly looking like a much longer time off then we could have ever planned. So where does one come from here, how do you continue, how do you plan? You can’t really if we are being honest with ourselves we need to just take this break- you never know, this could be a way of telling us to slow down and focus on the small things. It could be a way for you to finally finish that project you always wanted to, facetime and catch up with that friend you lost contact with, or even watch all the games you were too busy to miss. Whatever it may be, do not take this time for granted. Who knows you could even win the office pool for best March Madness bracket next year with all the research you can be doing in your off time (this is what I will be doing while not being able to watch March Madness and come up with brackets). Whatever your choice is, look to these people who now are struggling with this “harmless” flu and learn from them. We have a chance to help and move forward, we can be the change that is needed to shape our history.

Also enjoy some highlights from March Madness of the past and start making your 2021 predictions, use this time for research and maybe you can finally win the office pool:
